Hello Book Nerds and happy Monday! Wow I haven’t gotten to say that sentence in a long time. My apologies for being gone for so long. I have been insanely busy for the past few months with no time to sit down and just write! But let me say how nice it is to hopefully dare I say finally be back! I’m excited to bring you all in on some of my life updates and adventures that have happened since the last time I checked in! And let’s talk about books! That’s why we’re all here anyways, I can’t wait to let you in on what I’m reading and what has made it’s way onto to my TBR and my bookshelves!
The Month of May
Just like the title says I have some great life updates for you all! First off the one that was most exciting for me was getting to see my sister for the first time in 3 years!!! I travelled down to San Antonio, Texas over Memorial Day weekend and got to spend roughly 4 days with her, my brother-in-law and my precious nephew. If you’ve never been to San Antonio I highly recommend taking a short trip and getting to experience the atmosphere down there.

The food we ate was incredible! I’m talking authentic Mexican food that I can literally smell as I’m typing this! Highly highly recommend visiting San Antonio, and while you’re at it, depending on how you get to San Antonio I recommend taking a tour of the Dallas Cowboys football stadium in Texas. Now I’m not a Dallas Cowboys fan by any means, quite frankly I don’t keep up with the NFL, but I will say that touring their stadium is truly a fun and exciting experience!! Plus the tickets aren’t terribly expensive, so I’d say it’s definitely worth the money.
The Month of June
Honestly not a lot happened in the month of June. June was more so the month of being in a haze and bouncing around from weekend to weekend. June was a blur of early scorching days and trying to stay as cool as can be in 90-100+ degree weather!
The Month of July
After Memorial Day the next holiday up was the Fourth of July and well I ended up a little worse for wear after that one! If you’re going to attend a Fourth of July party and you want to stay safe…just stay inside the house, you’ll thank me.

Oh here’s a good update!
I am officially a 25 year old! Someone very close to me and wise once told me that, “Your twenties are both feeling as though you should have your entire life figured out and also feeling as though you are years behind the curve. And that’s okay. Then you reach your thirties, and then it’s like your twenties but you have money now.” All that to say that I guess I’m just holding out for my thirties at this point!
The Month of August
Oh have I been busy since the first day of August! If you’ve never eaten at a Brazilian steakhouse, than this is your sign to do it! My family and I travelled down to Oklahoma City the first week of August for my cousins 18th and had dinner at a restaurant named Fogo de Ciao… You guys when I tell you these cuts of meat were the most tender and delectable pieces of beef I have ever had in my life!! All I can say is if you never go to a Brazilian steakhouse you are seriously missing out!
I’ll say the best part of August is going to have to be August 30th. If you know you know and if you don’t let me educate you! August 30th is the start of the Oklahoma Sooners football schedule and I am a massive fan! So much so that
I am going to the Red River Showdown on October 12th! Any Sooners fan and Texas fan would tell you that it’s the biggest game for these two teams! The rivalry goes back decades and I am so pumped that this year I get to be there in all its splendor!! And yes I will be posting pictures in the subsequent posts that come out after that Saturday in October!
Reading Announcements
Now onto the stuff that you all actually care about. Last time we all got together I was reading the Red Rising Saga by Pierce Brown. I won’t go into all the details but for some closure I did complete that initial trilogy of novels and dare I say it was one of the best science fiction, fantasy series I have ever had the pleasure of reading!! I do plan on reading the remainder of the series, that I believe take place years in the future from the events in the third book.
Ride into the Danger Zone
Currently I’m reading a non-fiction novel! I know, even I can’t believe it! In all honesty I have a fascination with airplanes, more importantly I have a fascination with planes that are used in Naval Aviation! Growing up I got to watch the Blue Angels perform in Pensacola, Florida and it was breathtaking. From there I watched the original Top Gun movie that came out in 80s, and I was hooked!
Ironically, the non-fiction novel that I’m reading is also called ‘Top Gun’, well it’s actually titled, ‘Top Gun: An American Story’. The author is none other than Dan Pedersen, the founder of the Top Gun Program we all know and love today!

Just like the movie portrays, ‘Top Gun: An American Story’ is fast paced, with no hesitation, a novel that truly gives it all and lays it all out on the line! I’ve been on the edge of my seat reading it just like when I watched that infamous movie! Which took almost all it’s inspiration from the Original Top Gun Program, founded by Pedersen himself.
Science Fiction…No Just Fiction
Next on my TBR list is a novel titled, ‘Brooklyn’ written by Colm Tóibín. Believe me, the irony is not lost on me that I would be reading a book with a title of my name. What makes all of this even better is that this book follows the life of a girl named Eilis Lacey, whom has grown up in her small-town in Ireland following the end of World War II. When opportunity presents itself, Eilis takes it and finds herself in a town ‘just like Ireland’ only she’s in Brooklyn, New York, and her mother and sister are back home. As Eilis begins to navigate her new life in this new world, love strikes out of nowhere, in an Italian boy named Tony. Tony is patient and kind and talks to Eilis of his dreams. When Eilis is beginning to let herself fall, tragic news befalls her from Ireland, threatening her new life and her future.

Now if that doesn’t sound like an absolutely amazing page turner I don’t know what does! Just giving you all that synopsis makes me want to curl up on my couch with a hot cup of tea and get to reading!! To my surprise this book was first published in 2009! That’s 15 years ago ughhhh! Truly I don’t know where the time has gone. I’m excited to read ‘Brooklyn’ not because it’s this amazing fantasy or ground breaking science fiction, but because it is exactly the opposite of both of those. ‘Brooklyn’ is a fiction novel, with a little bit of history woven throughout, and I think this is going to be an exceptional reset novel for my over imaginative mind, I can only read so many books about dragons and magic and whatnot before my mind turns to sludge!!
I love well Love!
Lastly, I have gotten myself a few romance novels that I’m eager to start diving into! ‘Beach Read’, and ‘Funny Story’ by the great Emily Henry have found their way onto my TBR list and onto my bookshelf at home! About a year ago I read Henry’s ‘People We Meet on Vacation’ and I loved it, all the while not knowing that I had read her YA novel ‘The Love That Split the World’ way way way back when I was in HIGH SCHOOL! All that to say I’m excited to start ‘Beach Read and ‘Funny Story’ in the coming weeks!

Also I’ve managed to land ‘The Idea of You’ by Robinne Lee onto my TBR. For all you with an Amazon Prime account, I’m sure you can find the new movie on there as well! And yes once I have finished the book, I’ll have to watch the movie and see if it even comes close the book. My initial guess is that it wont because all movies based on books don’t do the books justice, but again that just my own opinion! Although I hear the movie has Anne Hathaway in it, so it has to be somewhat good right? And yes, I bought the movie cover edition of the book….I don’t typically say this, but the original cover just wasn’t doing it for me.

Well everyone that is all that I have for you this week!! I am excited to get back into these weekly talks with you all and I hope you can forgive me for being gone for so long. Have an amazing week Book Nerds and I’ll talk to you all next Monday!
