Happy Sunday Book Nerds! I am back and ready to tell you all about the latest book I just finished up! First off I want to say thank you for being patient with me while I work through the process that has been switching over my blog to a new provider. I can definitely say that it has been interesting figuring out all of the different page setups and editing tools. I believe my “About” page is still down, so I am currently trying to restore that, and don’t fear I promise to get the weekly newsletter back up and running the way it used to be!
In other news, I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that I tried to read Persuasion by Jane Austen and it just wasn’t doing the job for me. Well for all of my classic readers I’d like you to know that I started and finished Persuasion with the help of Audible! I found that having the novel read to me was much easier and I followed the story more closely and affectionately than I would have had I simply read it. Now I will say that I think it would be really fun to go back and reread Persuasion but in a hybrid style, so that while it’s being read to me I am actually following along with my physical copy as well. Just thought I would give you all an update on that because as your resident fantasy and sci-fi reader I thought it appropriate to pat myself on the back for not only finishing but also enjoying a renowned classic.

Now let’s get into the really good stuff! A couple of weeks ago I told you all I had found my newest read, Fireborne by Rosaria Munda and that it was a completed trilogy. I am beyond ecstatic to announce that I finished Fireborne early this afternoon and I am stoked!! Going into this read I did not know that it was a dual POV so that was a fun little surprise for me. I know during my review of Fourth Wing I was really excited for the sequel to come out, and I hadn’t wanted to be a dragon rider more in my life then when I finished that book. I am here to tell you all that I didn’t know what I wanted until just a couple of hours ago! In my opinion Fireborne is everything that Fourth Wing was trying to be!
I thoroughly loved how Munda fleshed out the world of Callipolis and the ranking system that is currently in place among the civilians. I thought between Lee’s and Annie’s POVs the tumultuous beginning of Callipolis and the way a potential revolution could be underway was done not only organically, but strategically as well.
One downside for me with Fireborne is that since the geographical layout is discussed a great deal throughout this book it was unfortunate that there was not a map for reference as I read. I know I mentioned this was one of those things that Book Nerds take a little too seriously, myself not excluded, so that was a bit of a let down; however, Munda did such a spectacular job in her writing that as I read about the different towns and areas of Callipolis I never felt lost in my position in her world. That alone in my book is a feat because so rarely do I read a book without a map and ever know where my location is, but Munda was clear in her descriptions and that alone felt like a breath of fresh air.
After reading the synopsis for Fireborne I had a feeling that there could be a romantic element in this debut novel from Munda and I wasn’t wrong! It was done tastefully and each scene left you wondering “Will they, won’t they?” personally, this kind of relationship can get on my nerves, but having it backed by such a strong foundation of friendship helped to keep it from feeling like Munda was jerking my chain the whole time.
I highly recommend anyone who loves fantasy to check out this book. I highly recommend that anyone who doesn’t like fantasy to check out this book! I highly recommend that anyone who has ever had an interest in dragons do yourself a favor and CHECK OUT THIS BOOK! I have already ordered the sequel Flamefall and it will be here tomorrow! I cannot wait to sink my teeth into the next book and see what fun Rosaria Munda has in store for us!
I will see you all next week with new bookish content! Don’t forget to leave a comment on this post, it is always a pleasure when I get to hear from you all and get insights into your own reading ways! Have a great Sunday!
